LIFE...
![]() | ||
Life is like a beautiful and winding lane, on either side bright flowers, beautiful butterflies, and tempting fruits, which we scarcely pause to admire and taste, so eager are we to hasten to an opening which is more beautiful still. But by degrees, as we advance, the trees grow bleak, the flowers and butterflies fail, the fruits disappear; and we find we have arrived - to reach a desert waste - G.A. Sala

THE GOOD-ENOUGH LIFE
Let's be honest: Love is not all that you need. However... When you do have love in your life, it makes up for many things you may lack. But if you lack love, then no matter what else you have, or how much you have it will never be enough.

In the beginning, Man went to work in the morning and came home in the evening, while Woman stayed at home and took care of the house, the children, and Man. Then World War II came, and Man left for Europe or the Pacific. Woman was asked to support the war effort and spend some time in the factory just temporarily, until Man returned.
Not only did many women realise that they liked working outside the home, but men conceded - some reluctantly , others gladly - that women could do the work.
Even though women workd outside the home, expectations remained high for their roles inside the home. They'd come a long way, baby, but they still had to get dinner on the table, take care of the children, do the laundry, clean the house, remember to send birthday cards to relatives, and keep their husbands sexually satisfied. Society essentially told women that, sure, you can have it all - but if you're going to do it all, you'd better do it well.
Today, while women on average still do a lot more work in the home than men, they are not the only ones who have to do it all and do it well. An increasing number of men are asked, are required - and, yes sometimes even want - to contribute more in the home and become more involved in the raising of their children.
There was a new world order, one in which both men and women had more priviledges and more responsibilities. Unfortunately, though, the feminist revolution, with all its significant achievements, was as unable to slow down earth's revolution and extend our days beyond twenty-four hours. So while demands on our time increased significantly, there was no corresponding increase in our time and no corresponding decrease to expectations.
Men and Women were officially banished from Pleasantville. In their new world - a world which is more equitable and fair, and also more demanding - can Man and Woman find happiness? The answer, to many, seems to reside in achieving what has become to be called "work-life balance."

A MATTER OF SPEECH...
A Christian friend whom I was very close with, many many years ago said: 'GOD WORKS IN STRANGE WAYS.' It is a "consolation" which I do not deny the fact.
THE BLUE ROSE
For years I became romantically involved with men who weren't emotionally available or capable of making a long-term commitment. My relationships were full of pain. I wanted to get married so I knew I had to do something radically different.
One day I decided to pray, "God I don't know how to pick the right partner, so please, please choose my Divine Beloved for me, and prepare us both for our upcoming union. And God, just so I'm sure to know who you've chosen for me, let him somehow present me with a blue rose."
Every day after that for five months, I affirmed that my Divine Beloved was coming to me, and that we would recognise each other at the right time.
Every day I let go of a little more control and opened a little more to God loving me. And every day I looked for my blue rose.
Twelve days after I left my abusive boyfriend, I attended a networking luncheon, where Alan Cohen was speaking. He spoke about the power each of us has to bless another human being. It touched me so deeply that when he invited us all to do a blessing exercise. I was the first to jump out of my chair. Over 100 people around me scrambled to find a partner.
Suddenly everything, was quiet and a young blue-eyed man stood in front of me. We joined hands and gazed into each other's eyes. Following the exercise I asked, "Will you bless me?" For several minutes he silently poured unconditional love and blessings onto me. He then asked, "Will you bless me?" and I returned the love. We didn't say anything else to each other.
The exercise ended and we returned to our seats. I was in a daze. In a few minutes the young man returned and introduced himself as David Rose. I knew then that God himself had presented me with my blue-eyed Rose.
A year later we married.

'GOD IS EVERYWHERE'......
'GOD IS WATCHING US, SO WE MIGHT AS WELL MAKE OURSELVES INTERESTING'
Picture contributed by Egyptian friend whose native language is Arabic
MEMBACA AL-QUR'AN/READ AL-QUR'AN
Briefly: Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. (pbuh) said "ILLUMINATE YOUR HOME BY PRAYING AND READING AL-QUR'AN." He added: "READ AL-QUR'AN FREQUENTLY. A HOME WHOSE OCCUPANTS, DO NOT READ AL-QUR'AN, RARELY WILL BE AT PEACE AND WILL EXPERIENCE MISFORTUNE AND MISERY."

THE DAYS ROTATE IN BRINGING GOOD AND BAD
It has been related that Imam Ahmad visited Baqi ibn Mukhalid while he was sick and said to him:
"O 'Baqi, rejoice in Allah's reward. The days of health are devoid of sickness and the days of sickness are devoid of health."
This means that during days of health one never contemplates sickness, for plans and ambitions then increase as do hopes and desires. During days of severe sickness, however, one forgets matters that pertains to times of health, weak despair encamps itself within the sick soul, and thus hopelessness prevails.
Commenting on this verse, Ibn Katheer wrote:
"Allah is describing man and the base characteristic that he is the possessor of (with the exception of those believers upon whom Allah has bestowed His mercy). In general, if man is afflicted with hardship after ease; he become hopeless of ever seeing good in the future, he shows disdain for the past - as if he never experienced good days - and despair for the future as if he never expected succor and relief."

THE SUPPLICATION OF THE WRONGED
Ibraheem at-Tamimi once said.
"When a man wrongs me, I pay him back with an act of mercy."
When some money was stolen from a righteous man who lived in Khurasaan, he began to weep. Fu'dayl, who saw him in that state, asked, "Why do you cry?" He answered, "I remembered that Allah shall gather me and the thief together on the Day of Judgement, and I cried, feeling pity for him."
A man slandered a scholar from the early generations of Islam. In return, the scholar gave him a gift of dates, and when later asked about the gifts, he said,
"Because he did good to me (ie. on the Day of Judgement the man would have to give him some of his good deeds or take from him some of his bad ones)."
THREE PLAQUES
I AGREE!
A wise person hang up three plaques in his office that he would read daily.
Written on the first was, "Your today, your today!" Meaning live within the boundaries of today, working and striving.
The second said, "Reflect and be thankful." Meaning, contemplate Allah's blessings upon you and then be grateful.

DO NOT EXPECT GRATITUDE FROM ANYONE
Allah, the Almighty, created His slaves so that they may worship and remember Him, and He provided sustenance for them so that they may be grateful to Him. Nevertheless, many have worshipped other than Him and the masses are thankful not to Him, but to others, because the characteristic of ingratitude is widespread among human beings. So do not be dismayed when you find that others forget your favour or disregard your kind acts. Some people might even despise you and make you an enemy for no other reason than that you have shown them kindness.
From among the ever-repeating pages of history is a story of a father and his son: the former raised him, fed him, clothed him and taught him: he would stay up nights so that his son could sleep, stay hungry so that his son could eat, and he would toil so that his son could feel comfort. And when the son became older and stronger, he rewarded his father with disobedience, disrespect, and contempt.
So be at peace if you are requited with ungratefulness for the good you have done. Rejoice in your knowledge that you will be rewarded from the One Who has unlimited treasures at His disposal.
This is not to say that you should refrain from performing acts of kindness towards others: the point is that you should be mentally prepared for ingratitude.
Perform acts of charity seeking Allah's pleasure because with this attitude you will assuredly be successful. The ungrateful person cannot really harm you: praise Allah that that person is the transgressor and that you are the obedient servant. Also, remember that the hand that gives is better than the hand that receives. Many people are shocked at the nature of ingratitude in others, as though they had never come across this verse and others like it.
Hence do not be in a state of agitation if you give someone a pen as a gift and he uses it to satirise you, or if you give someone a walking stick to lean upon and he strikes you with it. As pointed out earlier, most human beings are ungrateful to their Lord, so what treatment should you and I expect?

Pintu langit sentiasa mengalu-alukan roh orang Mu'min.
Firman Allah Ta'ala:
'Sesungguhnya orang-orang yang mendustakan keterangan-keterangan Kami, dan memandang rendah terhadap nya, tidak akan dibukakan pintu-pintu langit kepada mereka'
